Hump Yard Control System Upgraded
Ibridge has recently assisted with the development, test and commissioning of critical computer components for performing automatic hump control at one of the world's busiest rail yards.
Ibridge worked alongside client personnel as part of a team replacing outdated, custom manufactured portions of the control system with new off-the-shelf equipment from National Instruments.
The components replaced include equipment for determining rail car length, weight and velocity, as well as for determining environmental conditions. Other components that were replaced handle the necessary signaling for ensuring safe and efficient starting and stopping of the hump under all conditions.
The selection of the National Instruments Labview platform was jointly made by Ibridge and the customer after a thorough review process of several vendors. The client has been very pleased with the results and the team is continuing towards replacing other control system components with the same architecture.
